BEEF IN A CLOAK

This is a recipe best for all occasions. The beef is well cooked and the filling gives the perfect taste for the recipe. The ingredients can be found easily. So if you want to a try a new dish for your beef, try the BEEF IN A CLOAK.

30 minutes

Preparation Method :

  • First make the filling: heat the oil in a heavy frying pan and gently fry the onion until soft.
  • Stir in the remaining filling ingredients and leave to cool.
  • Roll the pastry out thinly to a rectangle about 3 mm/ 1/8 inch thick. Brush with egg white around the edges.
  • Spoon the meat mixture over half the pastry, leaving a rim of about half inch. Fold the pastry over the top, pressing the edges together and sealing well.
  • Make a few slashes in the top with a sharp knife and brush with more egg white.
  • Place on a greased baking sheet and cook in a preheated moderately hot oven (200°C/400°F, Gas Mark 6) for about 25 minutes until the pastry is golden brown.
  • Serve the meat, cut into slices, with Fresh Tomato Sauce.

INGREDIENTS

  • 450 grams frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 2 egg white, lightly beaten

Filling

  • 4 tablespoons Cooking oil
  • 2 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoon chopped gherkins, dill pickle or capers 
  • 2 teaspoon dry mustard 
  • 500 grams cooked beef, minced or finely chopped
  • 8 tablespoons single cream or evaporated milk
  • Dash of Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and freshly ground pepper
