CURRIED BEEF WITH POTATOES AND PEARL ONIONS

Preparation Method :

  • Heat the oil in a heavy-bottomed pan and drop in the cardamom, cloves and black peppercorns. After a minute add in the onions and cook till they turn golden.
  • Add the garlic and when it starts to colour, add the tomatoes, chillies, ginger and turmeric and continue to simmer till the tomatoes are pulpy.
  • Add the beef, potatoes and adjust seasoning with salt and stir for 10-12 minutes.
  • Grind the coconut, mint leaves and cumin seeds with little water if needed till you get a smooth paste.
  • Add the mixture to the beef and stir till the spices coat all the ingredients. Add in the pearl onions, a cup of water.
  • Simmer to low flame and cook for another 20-30 minutes or until the beef and the potatoes are cooked through and tender.
  • Drop in the tomatoes and bring to a boil for a minute or two. Add in the chopped coriander leaves, remove from the heat and serve hot.

  • 1 kg Beef tenderloin cut into cubes  
  • 220 grams Peeled baby potatoes
  • 150 grams Chopped onions
  • 75 ml IDHAYAM Sesame Oil
  • 120 grams Chopped tomatoes
  • 150 grams Grated coconut
  • 6-9 Cardamom pods
  • 6-9 buds Cloves
  • 90 grams shallots, peeled
  • 75 grams Tomatoes cut into quarters
  • 1 tablespoon Whole black peppercorns
  • 25 grams Chopped garlic
  • 3 tablespoon Chopped fresh chillies
  • 3 tablespoon Chopped ginger
  • 1½ teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 20 grams Mint leaves
  • A pinch Roasted cumin seeds
  • 2 tablespoon Chopped coriander leaves
