Preparation Method :
- Place the beans and their liquid in a heavy-based pan with half the onion and the garlic.
- Bring to the boil and simmer for 10 minutes. Drain and leave to cool.
- Heat the oil in a heavy frying pan. Gradually add the beans, mashing them as you go with a potato masher.
- Stir in the chili powder, adding extra if you like it hotter and spicier. Add salt and pepper at the same time if necessary.
- Continue stirring over a low heat until the mixture is thick, then spoon into a heated serving bowl and sprinkle with remaining onion.
