BASIC POTATO GRATIN

Preparation Method :

  • Grease 23 cm square slab cake pan Place garlic on oven tray, bake in moderately hot oven about 50 minutes or until garlic is very soft.
  • Cool 10 minutes, cut in half, squeeze out garlic; mash.
  • Cut potatoes into 3 mm slices.
  • Layer potatoes in prepared pan, sprinkling with two-thirds of the cheese between layers.
  • Combine cream, garlic and nutmeg in small bowl, pour mixture over potatoes; top with remaining cheese.
  • Bake, uncovered, in moderately hot oven about 1 ½ hours or until potatoes are tender and top is well browned.
  • Every 30 minutes, press potatoes down into cream mixture with an egg slice.

 

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 bulb garlic
  • 1.5 kg old potatoes, peeled
  • 200 grams grated gruyere cheese
  • 300 ml cream
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
