GINGERBREAD PEOPLE

Preparation Method :

  • Preheat the oven. Sift the flour, ginger and bicarbonate of soda into a large mixing bowl.
  • Add the butter and rub into the flour with your fingertips until it resembles fine breadcrumbs.
  • Mix in the sugar.
  • Warm the syrup in a small saucepan until runny, and then add to the flour mixture with the beaten egg.
  • Mix to form a soft dough, then knead lightly until smooth. If the dough is too sticky, add a little extra flour.
  • Roll out the dough on a lightly floured work surface then, using a cutter, make the gingerbread people.
  • Place on a lightly greased baking sheet and cook for 10 minutes, or until just crisp and golden. Allow to cool.
  • Use the Smarties to make eyes and buttons, and attach the jelly orange and lemon cake decorations to make a mouth.

  • 100 grams plain flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • ½ teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
  • 25 grams butter or margarine
  • 50 grams soft brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon golden syrup
  • ½ eggs, beaten
  • Smarties and jelly orange and lemon cake decorations, to decorate
