Preparation Method :
- Add macaroni to a large pan of rapidly boiling water and cook until just tender. Drain, set aside.
- In a bowl, combine mince, onion, breadcrumbs, parmesan, basil and egg. Form heaped teaspoonsful into small balls.
- Heat oil in a frying pan. Add meatballs and cook until well browned. Drain on paper towels. Transfer to an ovenproof dish. Preheat oven to moderate 180°C.
- To make Sauce : Add onion and garlic to same pan; stir over low heat until onion is tender. Add capsicum and mushrooms; cook 2 minutes.
- Stir in tomato paste. Add combined water and wine to pan. Bring to boil, stirring. Mix in macaroni, salt and pepper. Pour over top of meatballs.
- Bake, uncovered, for 30 minutes. Sprinkle with combined mozzarella cheese and breadcrumbs. Bake for another 10- 12 minutes or until golden.

- 1 onion, sliced
- 1 clove garlic, crushed
- 1 capsicum, seeded and sliced
- 125 grams mushrooms, sliced
- 50 grams tomato paste
- 200ml water
- 120 ml red wine
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
