SOUSED HERRINGS

When you want to try this recipe, you will need to have herring, pickling spice, granulated sugar and there are other needed ingredients that support this recipe flavor. If you do not cook this recipe yet, try to cook it now for your family.

Preparation Method :

  • Roll up each herring fillet from the head to the tail end, skin sides inside.
  • Arrange round the edge of a deep 25 cm / 10 in diameter dish. Sprinkle with the bay leaves and spice.
  • Arrange the onion rings between the herrings. Thoroughly mix together the remaining ingredients and spoon over the fish.
  • Cover with clingfilm (plastic wrap) and slit it twice to allow steam to escape. Cook for 20 minutes. Allow to cool, then chill. Eat cold with bread and butter.

INGREDIENTS

  • 500 grams each, filleted, 4 herring
  • 2 large bay leaves, coarsely crumbled
  • 1 tablespoon mixed pickling spice
  • 2 onions, sliced and separated into rings
  • 150 ml boiling water
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 100 ml malt vinegar
  • Buttered bread, to serve
