ORANGE-CHOC LAYER CAKE

With butter cream icing, black treacle, butter, cocoa powder and other flavorings, the orange-choc layer cakes becomes well known all over the world. This special recipe can be easily prepared and you can instantly have this through reading its given instructions.

Preparation Method :

  • Closely line the base and sides of a soufflé dish with cling film , allowing it to hang slightly over the edge.
  • Mix the cocoa smoothly with the boiling water. Cream together the butter or margarine, sugar and vanilla essence until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, adding 1 tablespoon flour with each one. Fold in the remaining flour with the black treacle and finely grated orange peel until evenly combined.
  • Spread smoothly into the prepared dish and cover loosely with kitchen paper. Cook on Full for 6 minutes until the cake is well risen and no longer damp- looking on top.
  • Allow to stand for 5 minutes, then ease the cake out of its dish by holding the clingfilm and transfer to a wire rack.
  • Gently peel away the wrap and leave to cool. Cut the cake horizontally into three layers and sandwich together with the icing.
  • Dust the top with sifted icing sugar.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 50 ml boiling water
  • 150 grams butter or margarine
  • 150 grams dark soft brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence  
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons finely grated orange peel
  • 175 grams self-raising flour
  • 1 tablespoon black treacle (molasses)
  • Butter Cream Icing  
  • Icing  sugar, for dusting
