SPICY SHEPHERD'S PIE

Preparation Method :

  • Cook the potatoes in salted boiling water until very tender, about 20 minutes.
  • Heat the oil in a large frying pan over medium heat. Add the onion and sauté until softened, 5minutes. Add the lamb and sauté over high heat until browned all over, 5 minutes.
  • Stir in the chillis, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and tomato ketchup. Season with salt and white pepper, and simmer on low heat for 15 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C/gas 5). Drain the potatoes and mash well with the butter and milk. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Spoon the lamb mixture into an ovenproof dish and top with the mashed potatoes. Dot with the extra butter. Bake for 25-30 minutes, until golden brown. Serve hot, garnished with the parsley.

INGREDIENTS

  • 8 medium potatoes, cut into chunks
  • 4 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 2 large onions, finely sliced
  • 750 grams ground (minced) lamb
  • 2 teaspoon crumbled dried chillis
  • 5 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 5 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 tablespoons tomato ketchup
  • Salt and freshly ground white pepper
  • 2 tablespoon butter + extra, for the topping
  • 5 tablespoons milk
  • 2 tablespoon finely chopped fresh parsley, to garnish
