Preparation Method :
- Melt the dripping in a large saucepan and fry the beef and diced potatoes for atleast 15 minutes.
- Add the rest of the filling ingredients, cover and cook it for 25 minutes, stir it every 5 minutes.
- Season it well and allow to cool.
- Roll out the pastry to 0.5cm in thickness and cut out 8-10 x 15cm rounds.
- Place an equal amount of meat mixture in the centre of each round, dampen the edges of each round and fold over to make a half-moon shape, pinching and crimping the edges.
- Glaze with the beaten egg and put the pasties on greased baking sheets.
- Bake at Gas Mark 4/180°C/350°F for 30 minutes.
INGREDIENTS
- 25 grams beef dripping
- 100 grams garden peas
- 700 grams roughly minced beef
- 270 ml Basic Beef Stock
- 1 kg peeled and diced potatoes
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper
- 150 grams peeled and diced carrots,
- 235 grams peeled and sliced onion,
- 900 grams Shortcrust Pastry
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh mixed herbs
- 1 egg, beaten with a little milk
- 30 grams plain flour
