CHEESE AND ONION OAT FLAN

Preparation Method :

  • Place the flour, oatmeal and salt in a mixing bowl and rub in the margarine until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
  • Add the water and mix to firm dough. Turn on to a floured surface and knead lightly until smooth.
  • Roll out and use to line an 8 inch flan dish. Chill for 15 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, make the filling. Heat the oil in a pan, add the onions and fry gently until transparent.
  • Mix the eggs and milk together, and then stir in the cheese, onions, and salt and pepper to taste.
  • Pour into the flan case and bake in a preheated moderately hot oven for 35 to 40 minutes.
  • Serve hot or cold, with salad. 

INGREDIENTS

Oat pastry

  • 200 grams whole meal flour
  • 200 grams medium oatmeal
  • Pinch of salt
  • 200 grams margarine
  • 6 tablespoons water

Filling

  • 4tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 4 onions, peeled and chopped
  • 4 eggs
  • 300 ml skimmed milk
  • 500 grams Cheddar cheese, grated
  • Salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper
