RAMADAN DESSERT

Preparation Method :

  • Soak all the fruit overnight. Bring the water and sugar to the boil in a large saucepan. Stir 20 minutes, until it becomes a syrupy consistency. Add all the fruits and simmer 1½  - 2 hours. After 1 hour add the nuts and mix well.
  • Remove the mixture from the heat and allow it to cool then chill. Serve in a cut glass bowl or individual dishes. Pour single cream over the top and garnish with grated nutmeg.
  • Ramadan dessert is eaten when the Muslim fast is over at dusk.

INGREDIENTS

  • 450 grams dried apricots 
  • 250 grams dried prunes 
  • 100 grams mixed dried fruits with peel (raisins, currants, candied orange peel) 
  • 175 grams raisins 
  • 4 chopped dried figs (optional) 
  • 600 ml water 
  • 50 grams sugar 
  • 100 grams chopped mixed nuts (pine nuts, walnuts, almonds), 
  • Single cream, to serve 
  • Grated nutmeg, to garnish
