QAHWA ARAB COFFEE

Preparation Method :

  • Bruise the cardamom pods by pounding gently in a pestle and mortar. Using a long handled coffee pot (or a tiny saucepan).
  • Place in it the water, pods and coffee. Bring to the boil, then simmer on a low heat for 15 minutes until the grounds settle.
  • Serve qahwa in tiny white coffee cups - Arabic ones do not have handles - about 2 tablespoons in each.
  • Qahwa is not served with sugar, and its rather bitter flavour is not to everyone's taste. It is traditional Arabic coffee.

INGREDIENTS

  • 6 cardamom pods
  • 175 ml cold water
  • 1 heaped tablespoon dark roast coffee, coarsely ground
