TUSCAN BAKED BEANS

Preparation Time :
20 minutes

Cooking Time :
3 hours 10 minutes

Preparation Method :

  • Preheat the oven to 140° C/275° F/ gas 1.
  • Place the beans, garlic, basil, salt and pepper with cinnamon and bacon in a large ovenproof casserole.
  • Stir and add just enough water to cover the mixture. Cover and put the casserole into the oven.
  • Bake for at least 3 hours or until the beans are very tender but still firm.
  • Remove from the oven, strain off any excess liquid and serve at once, garnished with chopped basil.

INGREDIENTS

  • 450 grams dried white haricot beans (soaked overnight and drained)
  • 3 crushed garlic cloves
  • 3 tablespoon fresh basil to garnish
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin
  • 8 slices streaky bacon, coarsely
