BOTTLE GOURD IN DAL

Preparation Method :
- Soak the chana dal in water for 1 hour. Drain.
- Boil the soaked chana dal with the diced bottle gourd, salt, turmeric and water until done. Mash slightly with the back of a spoon and mix well. Set aside.
- Heat a non-stick pan and add the oil. Add the cumin seeds and allow them to change colour slightly. Add the tomatoes and cook on a low heat until they soften.
- Add the green chillies and asafoetida and continue to cook for 1 minute. Add the chilli powder and ground coriander and cook for another minute, until fragrant.
- Add the chana dal mixture and stir well. Add the garam masala and sugar. Simmer for 2 minutes.
- Stir in the lemon juice and garnish with the coriander leaves.

- 200 grams split Bengal gram
- 350 grams bottle gourd, skinned and diced
- 2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 2 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 4 green chillies, chopped pinch of asafoetida
- 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
- 4 teaspoons ground coriander
- 4 medium-sized tomatoes, chopped
- 1 teaspoon garam masala powder
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 4 teaspoons lemon juice
- 4 tablespoons chopped fresh coriander leaves
