LADY'S FINGER COOKED IN TAMARIND GRAVY

Cooking Time :
30 minutes

Preparation Method :

  • Add boiling water and extract juice of tamarind.
  • Soak thoor dal in boiling water for 15 minutes and pressure-cook for 5 whistles.
  • Chop lady finger into thin round slices.
  • Slit chillies into half.
  • Allow mustard seeds to splutter in oil and add the green chillies and lady finger.
  • Stir for a minute before adding turmeric powder and asafoetida powder.
  • Sprinkle water and close lid for 2 minutes. Open lid again and stir.
  • Repeat process till seeds of the lady finger are cooked.
  • Add tamarind juice and salt and boil for 2 minutes.
  • Stir and add cooked dal to the kootu. Stir boil for 2 minutes until it thickens.
  • Remove from fire.
  • Serve hot with plain rice or dal rice.

INGREDIENTS

  • 800 grams of lady finger
  • 200 grams of thoor dal
  • 10 Green chillies
  • 4 tablespoon asafoetida
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric Powder
  • 2 lemon sized tamarind
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 2 teaspoon Cooking oil
  • Salt to taste
