WHOLE BROWN LENTIL

Preparation Method :

  • Heat the oil in a saucepan. Add the cumin seeds, garlic and ginger and fry until lightly brown. Add the onion and fry until golden brown.
  • Add the ground spices and adjust seasoning with salt to taste and stir for a minute or two. Add the tomatoes and cook for about 5-7 minutes or until a thick pulp is formed.
  • Add it to the lentils and bring to the boil. Cover and cook for about 5 minutes. Stir occasionally.
  • Add the lemon juice, whole green chilli, fresh coriander and butter. Add more water if needed.

INGREDIENTS

  • 250 grams whole brown lentils, cleaned, pick over, washed, soaked in the hot water, boiled in soaked water
  • 150 grams tomatoes, chopped
  • 1.5 litres hot water
  • Salt, to taste
  • 50 ml Cooking oil
  • 3-4 garlic cloves, crushed
  • ½ teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 inch piece of ginger, grated
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 whole green chilli, pierced
  • 4 tablespoons finely chopped fresh coriander
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Ground Spices

  • ½ teaspoon ginger paste
  • ½ teaspoon chilli powder
  • A pinch of cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
