Preparation Method :
- Heat the oil in a saucepan. Add the cumin seeds, garlic and ginger and fry until lightly brown. Add the onion and fry until golden brown.
- Add the ground spices and adjust seasoning with salt to taste and stir for a minute or two. Add the tomatoes and cook for about 5-7 minutes or until a thick pulp is formed.
- Add it to the lentils and bring to the boil. Cover and cook for about 5 minutes. Stir occasionally.
- Add the lemon juice, whole green chilli, fresh coriander and butter. Add more water if needed.

- 250 grams whole brown lentils, cleaned, pick over, washed, soaked in the hot water, boiled in soaked water
- 150 grams tomatoes, chopped
- 1.5 litres hot water
- Salt, to taste
- 50 ml Cooking oil
- 3-4 garlic cloves, crushed
- ½ teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 inch piece of ginger, grated
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 whole green chilli, pierced
- 4 tablespoons finely chopped fresh coriander
- 1 tablespoon butter
Ground Spices
- ½ teaspoon ginger paste
- ½ teaspoon chilli powder
- A pinch of cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
