LEEK AUR CHANAY KI DHAAL

Preparation Method :

  • Boil lentils in the water for 30 minutes over a medium heat or until they are soft. Drain any excess water and set the lentils aside.
  • Fry the leeks in the oil until a soft golden brown.
  • Meanwhile, pour the yogurt into a bowl and mix in all the spices and seasonings (includes garam masala and black cumin seeds).
  • Add this mixture to the leeks and stir-fry for about 3-5 minutes.
  • Add the sliced tomatoes, fresh coriander and lentils and continue to cook over a medium heat for 5 minutes, stir occasionally.
  • Remove from the heat and let it stand for about 5 minutes before serving.

INGREDIENTS

  • 250 grams chana dhal (Pick over and wash the lentils)
  • 800 ml water
  • 2 leeks, washed and thinly sliced 
  • 75 ml Cooking oil
  • 4 tablespoons yogurt 
  • ½ teaspoon diced and crushed ginger root
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • ¼ teaspoon black cumin seeds
  • ½ teaspoon crushed garlic 
  • ½ teaspoon chilli powder 
  • ¼ teaspoon turmeric 
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tomatoes, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh coriander
