Preparation Method :
- Boil lentils in the water for 30 minutes over a medium heat or until they are soft. Drain any excess water and set the lentils aside.
- Fry the leeks in the oil until a soft golden brown.
- Meanwhile, pour the yogurt into a bowl and mix in all the spices and seasonings (includes garam masala and black cumin seeds).
- Add this mixture to the leeks and stir-fry for about 3-5 minutes.
- Add the sliced tomatoes, fresh coriander and lentils and continue to cook over a medium heat for 5 minutes, stir occasionally.
- Remove from the heat and let it stand for about 5 minutes before serving.
INGREDIENTS
- 250 grams chana dhal (Pick over and wash the lentils)
- 800 ml water
- 2 leeks, washed and thinly sliced
- 75 ml Cooking oil
- 4 tablespoons yogurt
- ½ teaspoon diced and crushed ginger root
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- ¼ teaspoon black cumin seeds
- ½ teaspoon crushed garlic
- ½ teaspoon chilli powder
- ¼ teaspoon turmeric
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tomatoes, sliced
- 2 tablespoons fresh coriander
