Preparation Method :
- Soak thoor dal, in hot water for 15 minutes and pressure-cook for 5 whistles.
- Soak tamarind in hot water and extract juice completely.
- Chop the bitter gourd into semi-circular thin pieces.
- Heat oil and allow mustard seeds to splutter. Now add chopped vegetable, turmeric powder, salt and the tamarind extract. Pressure-cook for a whistle.
- Add 3 teaspoons of pitlai powder, curry leaves and the cooked dal. Stir, for 2 minutes. If the gravy is too thick, add a little water for correct consistency. Add a ¼ teaspoon of sugar or jaggery, if required to remove bitterness.
- Serve hot with plain rice or dal rice.

- 200 grams of bitter gourd
- 200 grams of thoor dal
- 2 medium lemon-sized tamarind
- A few curry leaves
- 1 teaspoon of Cooking oil
- 1 teaspoon of mustard seeds
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 3 teaspoons of pitlai podi
- Salt to taste
