Preparation Method :
- Grind dal together with freshly grated coconut, chillies, tamarind, asafetida, salt and sugar to a fine paste.
- Clean the leaves thoroughly, remove the hard veins, take care not to tear them.
- Spread a thin layer of the paste on the back of one leaf and then place another leaf on top of this.
- Repeat process until you have used all the paste and leaves.Turn in the edges on both sides and roll tightly and neatly.
- Tie the roll with string and place to steam until tender or for about 30 minutes.
- Remove the string without damaging the roll and cut it into slices and deep fry until very crisp. serve hot.

- 6 tender colocacia leaves (arbi ke patte)
- 200 grams yellow split gram (channe ki dal) - soaked 8-10 hours in water
- 1½ tablespoon, tamarindpulp (imli)
- 5 dry red chilies
- ½ coconut - grated
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- Small pinch of asafetida
- Salt to taste
