Preparation Method :
- Grind the cumin seeds, peppercorns, green chillies, ginger, grated copra and jaggery to a fine paste, with the soaked dhal.
- Add 250 ml of water and salt to the ground paste and bring to the boil.
- Simmer on low heat for about 3 - 5 minutes. Add some more hot water if the rasam is too thick.
- Heat the ghee and fry all the ingredients for tempering. When the mustard seeds splutter, add to the rasam.
- Garnish with chopped coriander leaves. Serve hot.

- 1 teaspoon black peppercorns
- 4 green chillies
- 3 pieces ginger
- 1 tablespoon grated copra
- 1 tablespoon powdered jaggery
- Salt to taste
- Chopped coriander leaves for garnishing
Tempering
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- ½ teaspoon asafetida powder
- 1 teaspoon ghee
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1 dry red chilli halved
- A few curry leaves
