URULAIKIZHANGU PODIMAS (MASHED POTATO PORIYAL)

Preparation Method :

  • Heat the oil and add all the ingredients for tempering. When the mustard seeds splutter, add the green chillies and ginger and fry for a few seconds.
  • Add the mashed potatoes, salt, turmeric powder and grated coconut. Mix well. Cook for a minute for the flavours to blend. Remove from heat.
  • Mix in the lime juice. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
  • Serve hot.

INGREDIENTS

  • 500 grams potatoes, cooked, peeled and mashed
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2 tablespoon grated fresh coconut
  • 2 green chillies, slit lengthwise
  • 1" inch piece ginger, chopped fine
  • Salt to taste
  • Juice of one lime
  • A bunch of coriander leaves, chopped fine

Tempering

  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon black gram dhal
  • 1 teaspoon Bengal gram dhal
  • 10 ml IDHAYAM sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds  
  • 1 dry red chilli, halved
  • ½ teaspoon asafoetida powder
  • A few curry leaves
