CHENAIKIZHANGU PORIYAL (YAM PORIYAL)

Preparation Time :

Cooking Time :
15 minutes

Preparation Method :

  • Mix the yam with the salt and turmeric powder and cook without adding water to the vegetable. Drain and allow to cool completely.
  • Heat the oil and add all the ingredients for tempering. When the mustard seeds splutter, add the slit green chillies and the cooked vegetable. Stir well.
  • Sprinkle in the grated coconut and poriyal powder. Mix well.
  • Serve hot.

INGREDIENTS

  • 500 grams yam, rinsed, peeled and finely chopped
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2 green chillies, slit lengthwise
  • 2 tablespoon grated fresh coconut
  • 2 tablespoon poriyal powder
  • Salt to taste

Tempering

  • 2 teaspoon Cooking oil
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon black gram dal
  • 1 teaspoon Bengal gram dal
  • 1 dry red chilli, halved
  • ½ teaspoon asafoetida powder
  • A few curry leaves
