BEANS PARUPU USILI (BEANS DAL PORIYAL)

Preparation Method :

  • Grind the red gram dal and the red chillies to a smooth paste with salt and asafetida powder. Set aside.
  • In a heavy frying pan, cook the beans till tender by adding very little water. Remove beans from pan and set aside.
  • Reheat the pan with 2 tablespoon of oil and add all the ingredients for tempering.
  • When the mustard seeds splutter, add the red gram dal paste and fry on low heat stirring occasionally, till the mixture is well cooked and crisp.
  • Add the cooked beans and fry for a couple of minutes for the flavours to blend.
  • Serve hot.

INGREDIENTS

  • 500 grams French beans, chopped fine
  • 150 grams red gram dal, soaked and drained
  • 6 dry red chillies, soaked and drained
  • ½ teaspoon asafetida powder
  • Salt to taste

Tempering

  • 2 tablespoon Cooking oil
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Bengal gram dal
  • 1 teaspoon black gram dal
  • 1 dry red chilli, halved
  • ½ teaspoon cumin seeds
  • A few curry leaves
