RED LENTIL KITCHARI

Preparation Method :

  • Melt the butter in a large pan. Add the onion to the pan with the ginger, garlic, cinnamon stick, cardamoms, cloves and peppercorns. Fry gently until the onion is soft.
  • Drain the rice and lentils and add the lentils to the pan. Fry gently, stirring, for 2 minutes.
  • Add the water and salt to taste and simmer for about 10 minutes. Add the rice and simmer for 10-12 minutes or until the water is absorbed.
  • Transfer the rice mixture to a warmed serving dish, remove the cinnamon stick before serving.

INGREDIENTS

  • 150 grams red lentils, rinsed and soaked
  • 500 ml boiling water
  • 150 grams long-grain rice, rinsed and soaked
  • 50 grams butter
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 1-2 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 2 inch piece cinnamon stick
  • 5-6 cardamom pods
  • 6 cloves
  • 10-12 peppercorns
  • Salt, to taste
