PAYATHAM PARUPPU MASIAL (MASHED GREEN GRAM DAL)

Preparation Time :

Cooking Time :
15 minutes

Preparation Method :

  • Heat 2 teaspoon ghee and add all the ingredients for tempering.
  • When the mustard seeds splutter, add the green chillies, tamarind juice, turmeric powder and salt. Simmer till the raw smell of the tamarind disappears.
  • Mix in the dhal. Simmer for a few minutes for the flavours to blend. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
  • Serve hot with rice.

INGREDIENTS

  • 175 grams green gram dhal, rinsed and cooked
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • A lime-sized tamarind ball, soaked and juice extracted
  • 6 green chillies, slit lengthwise
  • Salt to taste
  • A small bunch of coriander leaves, chopped fine for garnishing

Tempering

  • 1 tablespoon ghee
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 dry red chilli, halved
  • ½ teaspoon asafetida powder
  • A few curry leaves
