Preparation Method :
- Heat 2 teaspoon ghee and add all the ingredients for tempering.
- When the mustard seeds splutter, add the green chillies, tamarind juice, turmeric powder and salt. Simmer till the raw smell of the tamarind disappears.
- Mix in the dhal. Simmer for a few minutes for the flavours to blend. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
- Serve hot with rice.
INGREDIENTS
- 175 grams green gram dhal, rinsed and cooked
- ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
- A lime-sized tamarind ball, soaked and juice extracted
- 6 green chillies, slit lengthwise
- Salt to taste
- A small bunch of coriander leaves, chopped fine for garnishing
Tempering
- 1 tablespoon ghee
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1 dry red chilli, halved
- ½ teaspoon asafetida powder
- A few curry leaves
