BLACK GRAM DAL RICE

Preparation Time :
20 minutes

Cooking Time :
20 minutes

Preparation Method :

  • Cook the rice and set aside. Heat 1 tablespoon ghee and fry the cashew nuts till golden. Set aside.
  • The Spice Powder: Dry roast the ingredients for the spice powder. Grind fine and set aside.
  • Heat 2 tablespoon ghee, add the mustard seeds, Bengal gram dal, black gram dal, red chilli, asafoetida powder and curry leaves.
  • When the mustard seeds splutter, add the chopped green chillies.
  • Mix in the cooked rice. Sprinkle in spice powder and salt. Mix gently till well blended.
  • Garnish with the fried cashew nuts. Serve hot with papadams.

INGREDIENTS

  • 150 grams uncooked rice
  • 2 tablespoon cashew nuts, halved
  • 1 tablespoon ghee
  • Salt to taste

Spice Powder

  • 2 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 2 tablespoon grated copra
  • 2 tablespoon black gram dal
  • 1½ teaspoon black peppercorns

Tempering

  • 2 tablespoon ghee
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Bengal gram dal
  • 1 teaspoon black gram dal
  • 1 dry red chilli, halved
  • ½ teaspoon asafoetida powder
  • A few curry leaves
  • 2 green chillies, chopped fine
