MEEN POLLICHATHU (ROAST FISH)

Preparation Method :

  • Clean the fish and make gashes closely on either side. Grind turmeric, mustard and salt and smear over the fish.
  • Grind together the ingredients roasted chilli powder, pepper, mustard, red onions, garlic slices, ginger, cummin seed, Fenugreek very smoothly.
  • In a thick-bottomed vessel heat little oil and fry fish till both sides are uniformly browned, Drain the fish and strain the oil.
  • Heat 50 ml of oil including the strained oil. Saute onion and chopped tomato fry till oil separates.
  • Mix salt, vinegar and two pinches of sugar. Finally add coconut milk, Stir well and when oil floats on top add the fried fish. Turn over the fish often and let it absorb the gravy. Serve hot.

INGREDIENTS

  • 500 grams Fish closely gashed 
  • ½ teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • ¼ teaspoon Mustard
  • Salt to taste
  • 50 ml Sesame oil or coconut oil 
  • 200 grams big onion chopped fine 
  • Fleshy red tomato finely chopped 
  • Salt to taste
  • ½ dessert spoon Roasted chilli powder 
  • ½ teaspoon Pepper 
  • ¼ Mustard 
  • 5 Red onions
  • 8 Garlic slices
  • 1 inch sq. piece Ginger 
  • 2 pinches Cummin seed 
  • 2 pinches Fenugreek 
  • 1 teaspoon Vinegar 
  • 2 pinches sugar 
  • 100 ml Thick milk extracted from 1 cup of grated coconut
