Preparation Method :

  • Mix well the rice with the ground dhal.
  • Add the ground coconut and mix well.
  • Then add the ground garlic, shallots, cumin seed and mix well.
  • Add salt and the hot water and mix well to form a thick batter.
  • Keep aside for a few minutes.
  • Pour into round shallow pans and make a cross with palm leaves and place in the centre.
  • Steam for about 30 minutes or till done.
  • Remove from fire. Cool the appam before cutting.

INGREDIENTS

  • 500 grams Rice flour  
  • 50 grams Uzhunnu Parippu
  • 50 grams Garlic
  • 50 grams Shallots
  • 50 grams Cumin seed
  • 300 grams Fresh grated coconut
  • 300 ml Hot water
  • 3 teaspoons Salt
