VAL SHAAK

Preparation Method :

  • Mix the val, turmeric, salt, chillies and water, Cover and cook for about 10 - 15 minutes.
  • Add sugar and coconut when cooked.
  • In a small pan heat the oil. Add mustard and asafetida, when it splutters, add to the vegetables.
  • Mix, cover and cook at least for 2 minutes.
  • Serve with any Indian bread.

INGREDIENTS

  • 225 grams Val (cow pea), Clean, de-string, rinsed and drained
  • 150 ml Water        
  • ½ teaspoon Turmeric powder    
  • ½ teaspoon Sugar    
  • 1 teaspoon Cooking oil  
  • ½ teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 4 Green chillies, slited    
  • 25 grams Grated coconut    
  • ¼ teaspoon Asafetida    
  • Salt to taste
