CLAMS WITH COCONUT

20 minutes

Preparation Method :

  • Boil the clams in a pan with 1 cup water for 5 minutes till the clams open. Drain. Or prise open with a sharp knife, and discard the empty half.
  • Add the coconut to the ground paste and grind coarsely.
  • Heat the oil in a pan; add the onions and saute till soft. Add the spice-coconut paste; saute for 2 minutes. Add the clams, mix well.
  • Add 1 cup of water and salt; cook for 10 minutes till done.
  • Mix in the tamarind pulp; cook for 5 minutes more. Adjust seasoning. Cook till the mixture is almost dry.
  • Serve hot with rice and curry.

INGREDIENTS

  • 50 Clams, medium, washed

Grind to a fine paste with a little water:

  • 5 Kashmiri chilies                 
  • ½ teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • ¾ teaspoon Coriander seeds
  • 6 Black peppercorns                 
  • ½ teaspoon Garam masala
  • ½ teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 6 cloves Garlic minced                 
  • Half Coconut grated
  • 50 ml Cooking oil
  • 3 Onions, medium, finely sliced
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 Lemon Sized Tamarind soaked in 4 tablespoons of water
