KHATTI DAL

Cooking Time :

Preparation Method :

  • Cook the lentils with turmeric and salt for about 10 -15 minutes.
  • Heat oil or ghee; reduce heat. Add cumin seeds, When it turns golden, add onions.
  • Cook for 2 minutes or untill onions turn brown. stirring continuously.
  • Then add in tomatoes and cook for further 2 more minutes on low flame.
  • Add coriander powder, amchur and garam masala, Stir for 20 seconds and remove from heat.
  • Add the green chillies and red chili powder. Mix well.
  • Pour over the hot dal. Mix gently.
  • Pour the tamarind juice into the baghar and Boil.

INGREDIENTS

  • 175 grams masoor dhal
  • 50 ml tamarind juice
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric 
  • Salt to taste

Ingredients for Tomato-Onion Baghar 

  • 50 grams Cooking oil
  • ½ teaspoon cumin seeds 
  • 1 onion chopped finely 
  • 1 tomato chopped finely 
  • 1 green chilli slit length ways into four pieces 
  • ½ teaspoon garam masala 
  • ½ teaspoon coriander powder 
  • Pinch of amchur powder
  • ½ teaspoon red chilli powder
