DHAL CURRY

Preparation Method :

  • Cook the dhal with chilli, turmeric, ginger and salt with water in a saucepan for about 10-15 minutes. Skim off any scum that forms on the surface with a metal spoon.
  • Simmer to low flame, add water and cook for further 10-12 minutes.
  • Add the tomatoes and cook for further 10 minutes or until the lentils start to break down
  • Heat the oil in a small frying pan. Add the cumin and fry for about half a minute or until fragrant.
  • Pour in some of the curry, stir to mix and then pour back into the saucepan together with the garam masala and coriander. Serve hot.

INGREDIENTS

  • 220 grams skinned and split yellow mung lentils, picked and washed
  • 90 grams tomatoes, ground
  • 2 teaspoon Cooking oil
  • 1 litre cold water
  • 1-2 green chillies, halved lengthways
  • 1 inch piece of fresh ginger, peeled and cut into fine shreds
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • ½ teaspoon garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoon fresh coriander, chopped
