DAL WITH ALOO

Can’t wait for the next dish that your mother will prepare for dinner? Well, you have to be excited now because she might be preparing Allo Ambat that is made of healthy ingredients such as potatoes, black mustard, onion, tomatoes, green chilli, turmeric powder and garlic.

30 minutes

Cooking Time :
45 minutes

Preparation Method :

  • Wash and transfer split red grams to a pressure cooker.
  • Peel the potatoes and cut into 2 pieces each. Add to the split red grams.
  • Add garlic paste, salt, turmeric powder and water and cook over high heat till 1 whistle over high heat. Remove from fire. Add a little hot water if required.
  • Preheat ghee in a small frying pan. Add black mustard seeds. After half a minute add onion and fry till golden brown.
  • Add tomato and green chili and fry till the tomatoes get mashed. Add to the cooked split red grams and potatoes.

INGREDIENTS

  • 400 grams split red grams/Toovar Dal
  • 6 medium sized potatoes
  • 2 teaspoon garlic paste 
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 teaspoon turmeric powder 
  • 500 ml water
  • 3 tablespoons ghee
  • 2 teaspoon black mustard seeds 
  • 2 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 small tomatos finely chopped 
  • 2 chopped green chili
