CREAMED LENTILS

Preparation Method :

  • Cook the lentils with salt, turmeric, chili and the water for about 20 minutes, or until very soft. Drain off excess water.
  • Cook the onion in ghee to a golden brown. Set aside 2 tablespoon for garnish. Add the garlic and ginger and cook briefly, then add the tomato and cook to soften.
  • Stir into the lentils, adding the garam masala and cream and half the chopped herbs. Stir well and heat through.
  • Pour into a serving disk and garnish with the remaining herbs and reserved fried onion.

INGREDIENTS

  • 400 grams reel or yellow lentils 
  • 2 teaspoon salt 
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric 
  • 2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1.5 litre water
  • 2 large onion, very finely chopped
  • 6 tablespoons ghee 
  • 2 teaspoon mashed garlic
  • 2 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 2 large very ripe tomato, seeded and chopped
  • 4 teaspoons garam masala
  • 4 tablespoons cream
  • 4 tablespoons chopped coriander, mint or fenugreek leaves
