VERKADALAI KOLAKATTAI

Preparation Method :

For the Filling

  • Put the groundnuts in a mixer and dry grind coarsely.
  • Add jaggery to the groundnuts and grind to a coarse powder.

For the Dough

  • Soak the washed rice in water for 2 hours.
  • Then grind the rice in a mixer, along with the water added for soaking, to a fine paste.
  • Put the rice paste, salt, oil, and the remaining water in a non-stick pan and mix well.
  • Heat the pan and keep stirring until the rice paste forms a ball.
  • Gently knead the dough when it is warm and make lemon-size balls.
  • Using your fingers, flatten each ball and then shape it like a cup.
  • Put a little filling inside each cup, and press the edges to seal it.
  • Arrange the filled balls of dough on greased idli plates and steam for 7-10 minutes.
  • Serve hot or cold. 

INGREDIENTS

For Filling

  • 200 grams roasted groundnuts (without skin)
  • 250 grams grated jaggery

For Dough

  • 200 grams raw rice
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
