Preparation Method :
- The Tempering: Put the oil in a wok over medium heat. When the oil is hot add the tempering ingredients, fry over medium heat. Fry till the cumin seeds turn brown.
- Add the onions, tomatoes and garlic and sauté till onions are translucent.
- Mix in the turmeric powder. Then add in the crabs and stir-fry for 1 -2 minutes.
- Mix in the ground spice powder with tamarind paste and tomato sauce. Adjust seasoning with salt. Add 1 cup of warm water and cook for a few minutes, till the sauce is thick.
INGREDIENTS
- 500 grams small soft-shelled crabs, washed, cleaned and cut
- 30 grams finely chopped onions
- 90 grams tomato sauce or pureed tomato
- 30 grams chopped tomatoes
- 6 garlic cloves, halved
- ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
- Salt, to taste
- ¼ teaspoon tamarind paste
- Spice powder, Blend to a Fine Consistency
- Dried red chilies, to taste
- 2 tablespoon shredded desiccated coconut
- 1 teaspoon coriander seeds
- 1 teaspoon fennel seeds
Tempering
- 50 ml Cooking oil
- Few curry leaves
- ½ teaspoon fennel seeds
- ½ teaspoon cumin seeds
