Preparation Method :
- Marinate the prawns with yogurt, chilli powder and salt for about 15 - 20 minutes.
- Heat the oil in a heavy bottomed pan. Fry the onions with the dry red chillies till golden brown.
- Add the chopped tomatoes and coriander powder and cook till the oil starts to surface.
- Add the ground masala and salt and fry for about 5 minutes. Add drained rice. Mix and fry at least for 2 minutes.
- Add the hot water to 1 inch above the surface of rice. Cook rice for about 5 minutes. Add the marinated prawns and mix.
- Cover and cook on medium-slow flame and then on slow flame for about 10 - 12 minutes or until the rice and prawns are done. Serve hot.

- 750 grams long grain rice, rinsed, soaked and drained
- 1 kg medium sized prawns, cleaned, deveined and washed
- 150 ml yogurt, whisked
- 1 teaspoon chilli powder
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1 tablespoon coriander powder
- 4 medium sized onions, finely sliced
- 9 dry whole red chillies
- 150 ml Cooking oil
- Salt, to taste
Ground to a fine paste
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon peppercorns
- 6 green cardamoms
- 1 inch cinnamon stick
- 6 cloves
- 1 inch ginger piece
- 9 garlic cloves
