Preparation Method :
- Marinate the chicken with spice paste and salt for about an hour.
- Heat the oil in a heavy bottomed pan. Add the cardamoms, cinnamon, cloves, bay leaves and cumin seeds with salt, sauté for a few seconds and add in the marinated chicken.
- Keep stirring till the contents come to a boil. Cook further till the oil starts to surface and the chicken turns golden brown.
- Add the soaked rice to the chicken and fry for 2 minutes. Add water. Make sure to come above 1 inch the rice and chicken.
- Add 1 tablespoon ghee. When the dish starts to boil, simmer to low flame and cook covered for about 20 minutes or until the chicken and rice are done. Serve hot.

- 1 chicken, cut into 10-12 pieces, washed and drained
- 750 grams long grain rice, rinsed, soaked and drained
- 4 green cardamoms
- 1 inch cinnamon sticks
- 6 cloves
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 tablespoon ghee
- 75 ml Cooking oil
- Salt, to taste
Ground to fine paste
- 25 grams green chilli paste
- 6 onions, ground
- 1 tablespoon ginger paste
- 1 tablespoon garlic paste
- 200 grams yogurt, whisked
- 2 teaspoon pepper powder
- 50 grams poppy seeds(khus khus), finely ground
