GRATIN DAUPBINOIS

Preparation Method :

  • Place half of the butter with flour, evaporated Milk, salt and pepper in a small pan over a low heat, whisking continuously until the sauce boils and thickens.
  • Melt the remaining butter in a large frying pan and sauté the onion and potato slices for about 5 minutes or until golden and lightly softened. Transfer to a shallow gratin dish.
  • Preheat the oven to 190°C / 375°F / Gas Mark 5.
  • Pour the flour, milk mixture over the potatoes and top with the grated cheese. Cover the dish with foil and bake for an hour or until the potatoes are tender.
  • Remove the foil and place the dish under a hot grill until the cheese melts and turns golden.

INGREDIENTS

  • 750 grams potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 400 grams can Evaporated milk
  • 45 grams butter
  • 75 grams onion, sliced
  • 2 tablespoon flour
  • 120 grams mature Cheddar cheese, grated
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
