SWEET FRUIT WONTONS

Preparation Method :

  • To make the filling, mix together the dates, sugar and cinnamon in a bowl.
  • Spread out the wonton wrappers on a chopping board and spoon a little of the filling into the centre of each wrapper.
  • Blend the corn flour (cornstarch) and water and brush this mixture around the edges of the wrappers.
  • Fold the wrappers over the filling, bringing the edges together, and then bring the two corners together, sealing with the corn flour (cornstarch) mixture.
  • Heat the oil for deep-frying in a wok to 1800 C or until a cube of bread browns in 30 seconds.
  • Fry the wontons, in batches, for 2 - 3 minutes, until golden. Remove the wontons from the oil with a slotted spoon and leave to drain on absorbent kitchen paper (paper towels).
  • Place the honey in a bowl and stand it in warm water, to soften it slightly.
  • Drizzle the honey over the sweet fruit wontons.
  • Serve with a selection of fresh fruit.

INGREDIENTS

  • 20 wonton wrappers
  • 4 teaspoons corn flour (cornstarch)
  • 10 teaspoons cold water
  • Cooking Oil, for deep-frying
  • 4 tablespoons clear honey
  • Selection of fresh fruit (such as kiwi fruit, limes, oranges, mango and apples), sliced, to serve

Filling

  • 250 grams chopped dried, stoned (pitted) dates
  • 4 teaspoons dark brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
