VANILLA SPONGE

Preparation Time :
40 minutes

Cooking Time :
1 hour 20 minutes

Preparation Method :

  • Sift flour, custard powder, baking powder and bicarbonate of soda together three times, and then set aside.
  • Beat eggs in a bowl, add sugar gradually and continue beating until mixture is light and fluffy.
  • Fold dry ingredients into the egg mixture. Add vanilla essence and set aside for 30 minutes. In a pan, melt butter and gradually add the batter.
  • Line one 18 cm square tin with two pieces of greased paper then put into a steamer.
  • Pour in batter and steam for about 50 minutes or until cooked.
  • Arrange almonds for decoration.

  • 250 grams plain flour
  • 250 grams custard powder
  • 4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
  • 10 eggs
  • 500 grams sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 250 gram butter
  • Almonds or olive kernels
